Maidstone Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Practice
Without exception, phobias are learned associations between stimuli and emotion. The ability to quickly learn to be scared of a particular animal or environment is vital to our survival as a species and is a by product of Evolution Through Natural Selection.
For example, an individual might feel calm laying in bed at night and then suddenly become aware of a spider crawling upon their face. The natural fear of a foreign object upon one’s face is then quickly associated with the spider. Therefore the next time that the individual encounters a spider, they are unconsciously reminded of the original encounter and the phobia reinforces itself.
Another way in which individuals can learn phobias occurs when we witness another person experience fear around a particular animal or environment. For example if an individual witnesses their mother become fearful when in the same room as a dog, we unconsciously assume that there is a good reason to be scared of a dog and we learn to be scared. Our tendency to learn phobias in this second way typically diminishes around the age of ten.
Removing a phobia with hypnosis is relatively straightforward. It takes approximately an hour to remove a phobia with hypnosis.
